Representation and Photography

In my magazine I have represented young pop artists. I represented both male and female people between the ages of 17-25, with an average social class and income.  I have represented them as stereotypical pop artists with the clothing that they wear.  The backgrounds using in the photography does not represent them in any way, as they are majority on plain white backgrounds.
The way I constructed by photographs was stereotypical of pop magazines.  I used different shot types for different pages.  For chose the subjects body language and position to represent their genre.  For example I had one subject for my contents page stand with one foot up in a ‘cool’ position so that it would connote that they are a pop artist.  I made sure that everyone was smiling so that the stereotypical happy pop genre would show through in the a that they were being represented.
The clothing that was used in the shots was all chosen to be seasonal but also currently fashionable in the pop genre.  For example as it is autumn a lot of jumpers were used that would also be worn in mainstream pop.
I chose to represent this group stereotypically so that it would match the pitch of being a mainstream magazine, it is apart of the dominant ideology of pop magazines.
